Obituary for Jerry Rainey

Jerry “Wild Man” Rainey has left the building. The man, the myth, the legend is at last stress-free and at peace. The curtain came down for our Wild Man on March 11, 2022 in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Jerry had a deep appreciation for classic cars and could name any make and model on sight. While he might have loved buying those cars, he sure as hell hated driving them and would leave that privilege to his wife Carole. Jerry couldn’t stand pretentious people who were too big for their britches, and he absolutely despised cigarettes. He could never understand hip-hop or rap music, but he’d listen to Willy and Waylon and the boys any day.

For over 20 years, Jerry worked as a conductor for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. After retiring as a conductor, he and his wife started their own successful business Security Metal Roofing. Our Wild Man was a man with many, many friends and he loved, in this order: His smoking hot wife Carole, his brilliant son and loving family, his hilarious friends, and any old Chevy he saw on the road.

Jerry cherished the simple things in life: a good hamburger, a Louis L’Amour paperback novel, falling asleep during reruns of Gunsmoke, riding around with his favorite dog Rosie, listening to Marty Robbins’ records, watching Alfred Hitchcock movies with his granddaughter, and most of all, spending each morning having coffee with the love of his life, Carole.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carole Rainey (of Pineville, LA), their son Gregory Rainey and his wife Veronica Rainey (of Alexandria, LA). He is also survived by siblings Iris Winegart (of Pineville, LA), Douglas Rainey (of Jonesville, LA), Barry Rainey (of Aimwell, LA), Judy McLain (of Jonesville, LA). Jerry was a loving grandfather and leaves behind three grandchildren: Carrie Ann Rainey (of New Orleans, LA), Morgan Rainey (of Lafayette, LA), and Devon Rainey (of Dallas, TX). He also leaves behind his much loved nephew Mike Rainey, his wife Hester Rainey, and their children Megan and Christopher (all of Pineville, LA). He will now be having a long-awaited reunion with his parents Luther and Louise Rainey.

If you knew Jerry Rainey, you knew you were loved.

In lieu of flowers, Jerry would like you to give more than you take, be kind to strangers, and every now and then tell an inappropriate joke.
