Obituary for Hurley W. Butler

Poppa Hurley has gained his angel wings —

Hurley Watson Butler was born September 4, 1928 and passed away April 16, 2022. He was 93 years old. He was a devoted member of Magnolia Baptist Church and previously a member of Wesley United and Horseshoe Drive United Methodist Churches. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 Thursday, April 21, 2022 with funeral service to follow at Magnolia Baptist Church in Jena, LA. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pineville, LA under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home.

Pallbearers honored to serve are Brian Brodnax, Ronnie Delatte, David Flynn, Tucker McCoy, Johnny Rosier, Brandon West, Christopher West and Rob West.

Mr. Butler retired from the US Forestry Service and worked in real estate. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved get togethers and playing dominoes with family and friends.

Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice Walker Butler (mother of his daughters); his daughter, Nelda Butler Rosier; his parents, Charlie and Leola Butler; brothers, Boyce, Gerald and Lamar Butler; and sisters, Roxie Parker and Evon Tyson.

He is survived by his wife, Nita Butler; daughter, Nina Butler Flynn (John); son-in-law, Johnny Rosier; brother, Ray Butler; 4 grandchildren, Allison Delatte (Ronnie), Rob West (Melinda), Rebecca Brodnax (Brian) and David Flynn (Aspen); great grandchildren, Emily and Isabella Falanga, Brandon and Christopher West, Mary Claire, Molly and Taylor Brodnax, Anna Flynn and Tucker McCoy; and many loving extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be in his memory to St Jude’s or The Food Bank.

To God give glory for the many happy years Poppa Hurley enjoyed.
