Obituary for Gary Lee Yelm

Gary L. Yelm, age 76, of Alexandria, Louisiana, was born on August 20, 1947 in Kewanee, Illinois and entered eternal rest on December 9, 2023 in Pineville, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn “Lefty” Yelm and Dorey Hapenstall.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Maryann Yelm and 3 children, Marsha Lore (Daryl), Mark Roberts (Vicki), and Marlene Roberson (James). 9 grandchildren, Timothy Jr., Thomas, Matthew, Mark Jr., Ryan, Zachary, Michael, Justin, and Janna, along with 16 great-grandchildren.

In 1965, Gary proudly joined the United States Air Force and after 25 years of Honorable Service, Gary retired as Chief Master Sargent and a Vietnam Veteran. During his time in the Air Force, Gary met and married the love of his life, Maryann. The couple recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in October. After retiring from his military service, Gary worked as an instructor at the Central Louisiana Technical Community College, sharing his skills with others and retired after 25 years. Gary was a lifetime member in several community organizations to honor and support veterans. The list includes: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1736, American Legion Post #3, Am Vets Post #7, Disabled American Veterans DAV Post #7, Elks Lodge #1048, and the Combat Veterans MC. When Gary wasn’t busy with his many community activities, he enjoyed relaxing at home, spending time with his wife, watching old western movies, reading and cruising on his Harley.

A private memorial service will be announced at a later date to honor Gary.
