Gary Joseph Bize, age 61, was born in Alexandria, LA on January 15, 1960, and passed away at his home on March 6, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Lee Roy Bize and Doris “Teeny” Robertson Bize of Alexandria. He is survived by his sisters, Cindy Tullier (David) of Baton Rouge and Susan Freundlich (Ed) of Alexandria; his nephews, Eric Andries and Scott Andries both of Baton Rouge and Evan Freundlich (Kim) of Pineville and a niece, Sara Gordon of Boyce. The greatest love of Gary’s life was his Gibson Les Paul guitar upon which he first mastered was, “Stairway to Heaven”; the very path he took joining the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gary knew his musical talent was a gift from God. Gary treasured his family, life long and music friends, Church and N/A friends. He was easily befriended by all who knew him. He began as a balladeer singing Beatle tunes when he was just a little guy and loved anyone who listened to him play. He was a self-taught musician. He graduated from Holy Savior Menard High School and attended LSU-A and LSU-BR., until the musical road beckoned him and his band, “The Boondocks” to the California music scene. He became a prolific songwriter and a master of the guitar. He strived most of his life to be discovered. He never gave up on his dream! His greatest challenges were maintaining his recovery from addiction and multiple complex health issues. And in his final years, Our Lord brought him to join the band at Journey Church giving his musical praise, worship and thanksgiving. He touched many people; our hearts are broken and we’ll surely miss all the positive things Gary brought to our lives including his humor, friendship and amazing talents. We look forward to seeing him on the other side and listening to his new songs forever more. The family wishes to thank those who helped Gary: Professional Home Health, who lovingly cared for him, Ray’s Pharmacy staff members and his surgeon, Dr. Karl Leblanc in Baton Rouge, who helped Gary believe in miracles again and his always supportive N/A family. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be no public memorial service. A memorial candlelight vigil service will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 9PM at River City Clubhouse.
